This piece is carved out of one piece of cottonwood root with the only addition being the two white shells on the ears of the mask. The Morning Singer Kachinas appear early in the morning at the Hopi villages and sing songs and ring bells to awaken the Hopi people. They bring fir trees from the distant San Francisco peaks, a tree that is not seen near the Hopi mesas.
